• Welcome to my blog! My name is Laura and this is my window to the world.

I grew up in Scotland, spent six years in England and then moved to the States in 1997. Wherever I hang my hat, that's my home, and home has been Southern NH for the past 9 years and counting.

Thank you so much for visiting and I hope you enjoy sharing my life and passion for photography.

Recital is over

I’ve been a dancer since I was three years old. Well, maybe I danced before then. What I mean to say is that I’ve taken dancing classes since I was three years old. I’ve had breaks here and there over the years, but I always come back to it. My oldest son also attends dancing classes – we’ve just completed his second year at the same school as I. It’s cool that we both get to perform in the same recital. Next year, the intention is that both my boys will be dancing in the recital.

On the day of dress rehearsal, you can take your own photographs, so I brought my camera along this year and tried to capture some candid shots. I particularly like this backstage scene. Anyone who has performed in a recital will be familiar with this scene.

In other news, Logan goes to 1st grade this September. How can it be that my boy is about to turn six years old and be starting ‘big’ school?

Wardrobe ideas for Spring/Easter portraits

Deciding on what to wear is one of the most common questions from clients before a shoot. I’ve pulled together a few ideas so that you can get an idea of pulling together a complete wardrobe look for your pictures.

Ultimately, in family shots, you will be grouped together in the same shot and so finding clothing and color which compliments each other, yet does not match identically, is pleasing to the eye.

Here are some idea for kids – the girls outfits are from Crazy 8 and the boys are from Gymboree (30% off everything currently) – both are the current collection.

Here are some ideas for adults – both outfits are taken from the current collection at Old Navy.

A Family Sneak Peek – A Fall Affair {Southern NH Family Photographer}

It certainly was a fall affair with the New England colors in full force and lots of leaves to play with! This past weekend, I had an awesome time visiting with one of my favourite families in the world. Not only are they gorgeous on the outside, as you can evidently see here, they are gorgeous on the inside too.

Mr. M, just barely 4 years old has eyelashes to die for!  Watch out ladies – this one’s going to be a heartbreaker for sure.  All of a sudden I am relieved I don’t have a girl because her heart would have been stolen already for sure!

Miss M is fire and spunk!  She makes me laugh till my sides ache.  She’s also my oldest son’s girlfriend so hands off boys!  I have my daugher-in-law already picked out!
Just look at the entire family….and yes, that is the ENTIRE family with baby #3 on his way!  Doesn’t Mommy look so beautiful?
Mmmm – we could never tell where Miss M gets it from, could we?
Matching beautiful smiles!
I would love to know his thoughts right here…
There is nothing quite like the love between a mother and her son.
Fast friends!

More kilts – can you take all these bare knees?

I had the priviledge to be called home to Scotland to attend my oldest and very dear friend C’s wedding. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. There’s just something special and very different about a Scottish wedding (and no, I am not talking about the copious numbers of alcohol impared people.)

I’ve always loved weddings!  Even when I was young and working in the local hotel as a receptionist, I never got tired of the weddings – and I’ve certainly seen a lot of them; on average there was one, if not two, every weekend at that hotel.  I loved to see the bride’s dress, the flowers and all the guests dressed up in their “Sunday best”.

C & K – thank you for sharing your special day with me.  I wish you a long and happy life together.

Boys in skirts

It may not be your cup of tea….but it is definitely mine! The NH Highland Games took place in September recently. Of course, my family was dressed to the nines knees in kilts. I was excited that even on the Sunday, at the end of the weekend events, they still had haggis to offer. Say what you will, but you can’t beat a good plateful of haggis.

There are a few bands that we enjoy seeing (Albannach) and one that we usually see that was missing (the Glengarry Bhoys), but we had a great time!

And of course, what better to pair a kilt than with cowboy boots?  Wouldn’t you?
